Overview
Acoer and its open-source projects promote and enable greater collaboration in healthcare.
Challenge
Data is increasingly a liability for healthcare organizations to use, store, and share; this weakens the ability for collaboration and diminishes the opportunity for efficiency.
Solution
By using Hedera, supply chain collaborators can have transparency and auditability throughout the system. Acoer aims for this to reduce the frequency of drug shortages and have better predictability.
For healthcare communication and collaboration to progress, secure access to trusted data is table stakes. Acoer's mission is to enable superior drug development and patient care decision-making through model-informed drug development, regulatory science, real world evidence and knowledge integration, thus optimizing R&D productivity, commercial value and patient outcomes.
One challenge they are taking head on is drug shortages. Drug shortages impact lives daily, with an average of 198 shortages every year in the United States alone. Their belief is that by providing a collaboration platform using a distributed ledger to track the supply chain end-to-end they can successfully prevent and reduce the time to remedy.
To this end, they're developing an Open API for pharma and life sciences. By removing barriers to access, in a secure way, Acoer hopes to encourage collaboration. In addition, Acoer is building enabling tools like HashLog that utilizes Hedera's mirror nodes to provide historical data and transparency into transactions on the public ledger.
"Public ledgers provide a good option for regulators, allowing them to achieve the compliance and transparency they need in a secure, high-performance network designed for collaboration."
Acoer uses Hedera Hashgraph for a public ledger solution because of its use of hashgraph to reach finality in seconds. Hedera's ability to have fair ordering of transactions alongside timestamps and signatures make it ideally suited to handle the complexity of a supply chain across numerous parties.
